About AVP Conference

We are living in an unprecedented optical era in an age of post-truth that sets the scene for dangerous encounters of a human (and non-human) kind. Images are utilised in everyday lives to persuade, illuminate, transform and also deceive, yet we have barely scratched the surface concerning their potential for transformation and/or colonisation of thought. This conference opens up opportunities to give prominence to aspects of visuality in light of its increasing dominance in educational practice, potential to galvanise/revolutionise/advance (and likewise propogandise/homogenise/colonise) thought; and to critically analyse the associated challenges facing its materiality in the lives of all.

Topics

Further education, Early childhood education, Visual science, Education, Colonization

Call for Papers

Given the visual nature of our work, this conference welcomes submissions to break-out sessions in a variety of diverse forms and across diverse disciplines:

1. Paper/powerpoint presentations of 45 minutes, including questions

2. Round table/’think-piece’ discussions of 1.5 hours

3. Film screenings of up to 1.5 hours duration

4. Exhibitions and poster presentations to be displayed throughout the conference

Submissions for all types of submissions comprising title, authors, contact details, 500 word abstract plus selected reference

Publication opportunities

AVP owns - Video Journal of Education and Pedagogy - a recently developed peer reviewed scholarly journal hosted by Brill - that publishes visual as well as written ‘papers’ (including video). A special issue based on the conference theme will be published and conference presenters are invited to submit papers immediately following the conference.

AVP with Brill also invite submissions to a brand new book series Visual Pedagogies, Methodologies and Educational Research.

AVP also hosts a YouTube site where teaching demonstrations with commentaries, and films can be presented.

We encourage all participants to consider at least one of these options for their papers/presentations at this conference.
