About SOCSSEA2017

The Greenwich Maritime Centre (GMC) in partnership with National Maritime is convening its second international conference on the theme 'Society and the Sea‘ bringing together industry and academia to explore the value of the ocean, key challenges being faced, and opportunities for future development of the blue economy. The conference is supported by the National Maritime Museum, Seafarers UK, Marine Conservation Society, Thames Estuary Partnership, Coastal and Marine Research Group (RGS), World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Coastal Partnership Network.

Call for Papers

Society and the Sea 2018 will incorporate INVESTINBLUE the showcase event for the UK maritime industry.

Society and the Sea 2018 will host the launch of the new MARINE SOCIAL SCIENCES NETWORK. More details of both events will be live on our website soon.

Themes

The conference will address the following themes but is not limited to them:

The Blue Economy; Maritime Governance; Conservation and public engagement; Maritime Environmental Change; Maritime heritage and history; Maritime perceptions and representations; Marine engineering; Maritime human health and wellbeing; Small-scale fisheries. 

The conference also encourages the submission of non-traditional presentations e.g. workshops, panel debates, video screening, photographic display, animations, sound installations, etc. There is the opportunity to use the Heritage Gallery (within the Old Royal Naval College campus) for exhibition purposes.

Submissions

We are inviting submissions for sessions, papers, posters and presentations on the above themes, or related themes that you feel are connected and relevant, to be submitted by MONDAY 16 APRIL 2018.
