Immigrants refugees and displaced persons

The meeting of the profession will convene more than 2,000 social workers, like-minded professionals, and social work thought leaders for four days of unparalleled opportunities for professional development, continuing education, networking, and thought-provoking conversations tackling the most pressing issues facing the social work profession across the world.

The fifth annual Ray Browne Conference on Cultural and Critical Studies is co-sponsored by Popular Culture Scholars Association and Culture Club: Cultural Studies Scholars’ Association within the School of Cultural and Critical Studies at Bowling Green State University.

Metropolis is the only platform to bring together international, national and local migrant influences alongside academic, government, practitioner and community perspectives to highlight the latest research, challenges and successes in migration, diversity and integration. The event will be an intellectually challenging, culturally rewarding opportunity to network, partner and explore the latest thinking and practices in migration policy, research and programs - come with an open mind.

This one-day conference will look at how the recent influx of migration and refugee movement has affected various aspects of international affairs. It hopes to bring together inquisitive graduate students and scholars as well as practitioners from NGOs, government agencies and intergovernmental organizations to review, assess, and challenge the notions of displacement in today’s international arena. It seeks to expand the discourse on the political, economic and social implications of migration as nations reexamine policies in response to these crises, as well as further our understanding of the various causes and drivers of displacement. Attendance is open to all.

Turkey as a country hosting more than 4 million refugees amid the biggest refugee crisis of the history is a laboratory for Refugee Law. In this respect, Istanbul Center of International Law (ICIL) is organizing its annual Winter Academy of International Law (WAIL) dedicated to Refugee Law in cooperation with Istanbul Law School. Objective of WAIL is to promote the capacity building among Turkish law students in terms of specialization in Refugee Law to properly tackle with social and economic challenges of the reality of refugees.
