Music studies

(Un)bound: Interdisciplinary Dialogues will be held on May 3rd and 4th at Carleton University, located on unceded Algonquin territory (Ottawa, Canada). This year’s theme invites graduate students, emerging scholars, and artists whose research or creative practice attempts to cross traditional borders and boundaries within the academic and artistic realms.

While the health benefits of music have been broadly recognised across various disciplines, professions and practices, this event offers an opportunity for a fully inclusive interdisciplinary exploration of music’s impact on the mental health of listeners, and the impact of mental health on the creation and performance of music.

Music speaks volumes where words fail us and can be a conduit for communication between individuals, groups, entire countries, and through time. Musicians, songs and styles of music transcend national boundaries and speak across the generations. Precisely because the meanings and implications of music are not limited to specific professions this project invites inclusive interdisciplinary approaches to making sense of the way music impacts our lives.

The Society for the Academic Study of Social Imagery (SASSI) invites paper and panel proposals for their March 8-9, 2019 conference in Greeley, Colorado. The theme is "THE IMAGE OF ADVENTURE in Literature, Media, and Society." Hosted by the University of Northern Colorado School of Communication, the SASSI conference each year addresses the influence of images in literature, media, and society with a new and different thematic focus. The theme for 2019 – in honor of the 300th anniversary of Daniel Defoe’s The Life and Strange Adventures of Robinson Crusoe - explores the image of ADVENTURE.

The University of Tulsa Institute for Bob Dylan Studies and the Bob Dylan Archive will host the World of Bob Dylan – an international conference that covers the Nobel laureate’s music, life, work and context from May 30 to June 3, 2019. The event will gather scholars, critics, musicians, fans and experts from around the world for three days of panels, lectures, exhibitions, performances and more.
