The diversity of the Asia-Pacific region – geographically, culturally and economically – has produced variations in microbiota which may contribute to differences in how various diseases present and respond to standard treatments. It has also produced variations in the gut microbiome, an important factor if functional probiotics are going to be an effective tool towards managing food allergies and potentially reversing certain disorders and diseases. Dietary supplements manufactured by incorporating various strains of probiotics are widely recognised as providing “dietary support”. Also, the interface between pre & probiotics and the microbiome has become an increasingly interesting area of research nowadays.
