“2nd World Encounter Teresian Mysticism and Interreligious Dialogue. Chan/Zen Buddhism and Carmelite Spirituality: on Love and Compassion”, which will take place in Ávila, from 22nd to 26th of July 2020 jointly organized by International Centre of Teresian and Sanjuanist Studies (CITeS) in Ávila, Spain and the Centre of Buddhist Studies (CBS) of The University of Hong Kong (HKU).

Through the centuries, humans have often shaped their social life by fictional moments and by taking part in fictional events: carnivals, representations, role plays, society plays, structured and semi-structured collective and singular moments where strictly coded contexts organize specific worlds and cultural dimensions. Play, in its wide acception and in its nature of artificial and coded mechanism, reflects historically the symbolic work by which human societies have elaborated, explained and organized the world.

Spirituality recognises that there is more to reality than just the material world. But what is the effect of spirituality on that material world? This interdisciplinary conference examines the intersection of spiritual belief and cultural realities in an inclusive, interdisciplinary space.
